💡The Feminine Voice
Some photographs arrive long before we understand why we took them.
This was one of those.
Do you see the beam of light hitting the throat of the profile made from the ridge?
At the time, I had been spending a great deal of time reflecting on my Hashimoto’s disease and the thyroid—the place where we find our voice and express what lives within us.
I was also contemplating the idea, found in some spiritual traditions, that the Earth carries its own energetic pathways.
One location near my home had become deeply meaningful to me because I associated it with the throat of the Divine Feminine.
With that intention, I hiked to a small waterfall hidden inside a cave.
It was winter, and the creek was frozen enough that I could carefully walk across the ice.
When I reached the cave, I discovered I was not alone.
A young woman, perhaps seventeen years old, was standing inside.
She wasn’t singing words—only pure, beautiful tones.
Her voice echoed through the stone chamber, filling the space with a resonance I can still remember.
I never spoke to her.
I simply stood quietly, offered my prayer for healing—for the feminine voice, for my own voice, and for anyone whose voice had been silenced—and then continued on my way.
A week later, as I was driving through the same area, I felt an unexpected urge to pull over and take a photograph.
I resisted at first.
“Why? I already have plenty of pictures from here.”
Yet the feeling persisted, so I stopped, stepped out, and took a single photograph before continuing home.
Only later, while looking through the image, did I turn it sideways.
Suddenly I noticed what appeared to me to be the outline of a face, with a shaft of sunlight breaking through the clouds and touching the throat.
I don’t expect everyone to see what I saw.
Perhaps it was coincidence.
Perhaps it was simply the way light met the landscape.
For me, however, it felt like a quiet affirmation—a gentle reminder that sincere prayers matter, even when we never know where they travel.
I titled the photograph The Feminine Voice because it reminds me that healing often begins in silence… and that sometimes, the Earth seems to answer in ways we least expect.
