The Clear Witness
Sometimes clarity does not come from finding another answer.
Sometimes it comes from removing what is standing between us
and what is already there.
White Sapphire carries no strong color of its own.
Clear,
bright,
and remarkably durable,
it has the character of something willing to let light pass through
without insisting on changing the story.
Within The Guardians,
White Sapphire is The Clear Witness.
It does not tell us what to think.
It asks us to see.
π Corundum Without the Color
Sapphire belongs to the mineral family corundum,
made primarily of aluminum oxide.
Pure corundum is colorless.
The remarkable colors found in other sapphires arise
when trace elements become part of the crystal as it forms.
Iron and titanium can help create blue.
Chromium can bring pink and red.
Other trace elements and structural effects produce still more colors.
White Sapphire is the quieter expression of
corundum with very little of the coloring influence
that gives its relatives their distinctive hues.
And because corundum measures 9 on the Mohs hardness scale,
White Sapphire carries the same extraordinary durability as other sapphires.
Clear does not mean fragile.
π€ How White Sapphire Works With Us
In stone traditions,
White Sapphire is associated with
clarity,
wisdom,
discernment,
focus,
and truth.
But its particular character in the Litharium feels even simpler:
See what is there before deciding what it means.
We all look through lenses.
Experience.
Expectation.
Fear.
Hope.
Memory.
Sometimes those lenses help us understand what we encounter.
Sometimes they color something before we’ve actually had the chance to see it.
White Sapphire does not ask us to have no perspective.
It simply reminds us that occasionally it is useful to notice the lens.
ποΈ The Clear Witness
A witness does not have to solve what it sees.
It does not have to correct it.
It does not even have to understand it immediately.
First, it notices.
There is something protective in that kind of clarity.
Because when we can observe without immediately adding a story,
we create a little room between what happened
and what we think happened.
And inside that room
we may discover something we hadn’t considered before.
Clarity does not choose for us.
It gives us something clearer from which to choose.
π A Note from the Keeper
I think we sometimes ask clarity to arrive as certainty.
I am learning that they may not be the same thing.
Clarity can simply mean being willing to look at what is here
without demanding that it immediately become an answer.
Perhaps that is why White Sapphire feels like a Guardian to me.
It does not guard the conclusion.
It guards the space in which we are still allowed to see.
And sometimes that little bit of space changes everything.
Before the answer,
there is the seeing.
