Tree Council
Sometimes paying attention reveals something profound.
Sometimes it reveals three old trees making faces at you.
I was walking past these trees when I got the unmistakable nudge:
Take a picture.
My first response was basically…
Really? Here?
There was a car in the way.
The angle felt awkward.
I kept moving.
Then the nudge came again.
So I stopped.
I stood where I was and took the picture.
I didn’t study it afterward.
I just kept going.
Later, when I finally opened the photograph…
I started laughing.
Because there they were.
Three faces.
The one in the back looked like a grumpy old man.
The one in front of him seemed softer somehow, almost as though her head were tilted.
And the one on the right?
Once I decided the light patch was his nose…
he looked like he was sticking his tongue out.
😛
Apparently the trees have personalities.
Or at least my eyes decided they did.
Either way…
I was delighted.
The Funny Part
What stayed with me wasn’t just the faces.
It was the fact that I had argued with the impulse to stop.
I nearly walked right past the exact place where the picture came together.
Maybe that’s why this one makes me laugh so much.
Sometimes I think Spirit knows I’m going to argue first…
and gives me enough grace to stop anyway.
Look Again
We are very good at deciding what we are looking at.
Tree.
Bark.
Shadow.
Nothing unusual.
Then something shifts.
A face appears.
Then another.
Then suddenly the whole scene looks different.
The trees may not have changed at all.
Only the way I was seeing them did.
And that feels familiar.
A Quiet Reflection
Before you move on…
Look at the photograph once.
Then look again.
What do you see?
Continue Wandering…
